The SUNIE story
Where it all began…
My teaching journey started on the other side of the reformer. I was a Pilates client for around six years before one of my instructors said, “Ever thought about teaching? You’d be amazing!” I laughed… and three years later, here we are! From my very first moment teaching, I knew this was what I was meant to be doing - helping people feel motivated, seen, and fall in love with Pilates just like I did.
Sunie started with a love story - Pilates and me. It was my safe space, the one kind of movement I never had to hype myself up for. No pep talks, no gym anxiety, no “I’ll go tomorrow” promises. I genuinely loved it, and it gave me so much: mobility, control, balance, and a sense of calm. But when I turned 30 and started learning more about the importance of strength training and long-term health, I’ll be honest - I panicked a little. I knew I needed strength for my bones, my muscles, and my future self… but the thought of joining a gym just wasn’t it. And while Pilates gave me so much, I also knew it wasn’t ticking all the strength boxes I needed.
Pilates gave me a place where I felt safe, supported, and genuinely excited to show up - and that feeling has always stayed with me. Sunie is my way of sharing that sunshine. A space full of connection, encouragement, and movement that lifts both body and soul. A place where you feel welcomed, guided, and part of the fam the moment you walk through the doors - and leave feeling stronger, brighter, and a little sunnier than when you arrived.
Behind the name
Before Sunie, I ran a little gift box business called A Little Box of Sunshine, created in honour of my mum, who passed away in 2017. Closing that chapter was tough - it held so much meaning - but when the idea for the studio began to take shape, it felt only right to carry the sunshine forward, for her.
Sunie captures everything my mum was, and everything I want this space to be: warm, uplifting, and full of light. A place for feel-good endorphins, movement that lifts the soul, and a gentle reminder that - just like the sun - there’s room for everyone and every body. A welcoming space for all genders, all ages, all movers and groovers… inspired by the woman who was the very first ray of sunshine in my life
